It is been a long time since Mahindra Two Wheeler acquired a 51 per cent stake in the scooter division of Peugeot PSA. We never heard anything from both the companies about the launch of the scooters in India, until now. Now, as per a report by Topgear, Mahindra Two Wheeler might offer three Peugeot scooters for the Indian market, whenever the French products are feasible for the Indian market.
The three scooters in question are the Django, the Satelis 125 and the Speedfight 3. While the Django is a retro-styled 125cc scooter and will compete with the Vespa LX 125, the Satelis will see the upcoming Hero Zir as its closest competitor. The Speedfight 3, on the other hand, is a small commuting scooter that has a sporty stance.
Interestingly, the company is also considering the Metropolis scooter for the Indian market. The Metropolis is a three-wheeled 400cc scooter that produces 37bhp of maximum power and looks really good. Even if the company is serious about offering this product in the country, it will be a funny proposition if the 400cc is offered because we really don’t have a market for such scooters. If Mahindra manages to develop a small engine and then offer this scooter to us that could possibly work, depending on the price point. We are hoping to see Mahindra scooters sharing its stage with the Peugeot products at the 2016 Auto Expo.
