Max Biaggi has announced a return to motorcycle racing in 2017. This time however, the two-time WSBK champion and MotoGP runner-up has been put at the helm of the Mahindra’s new junior racing team as the manager and team principal.
The 45-year-old Italian will operate a Mahindra-supported team in the Campionato Italiano Velocitá (CIV) and select rounds of the FIM CEV Junior World Championship. The CIV is a premier racing championship in Italy, regarded as the proving ground for budding Italian racers. The team will race Mahindra’s Moto3 machine, the MGP3O and receive technical assistance from Mahindra Racing’s factory technicians. Mahindra Racing has fielded two riders in these championships - Alessandro Del Bianco and Davide Baldini.
Mahindra Racing became the first Indian motorcycle constructor to participate in the 125cc class of the MotoGP world championship back in 2011. Six years on, the team has now expanded to Moto3 class and has been steadily improving its performance every year. The introduction of a new team in CIV shows the manufacturer’s commitment towards the sport. With this collaboration, Mahindra and Biaggi are now aiming for the top spot in the 2017 championship.
