Mahindra has brought in Peugeot's international range of scooters to the 2016 Auto Expo. The three scooter line-up consists of two 125cc scooters - Django and Speedfight as well as a trike – the Metropolis.
The Peugeot Django is an entry-level model, though its appearance doesn't convey this at all. It has been styled to look like the retro scooters of the early 1960s, making it a rival to the Vespa range. Its simple styling, the contoured seats and the old-school two-tone paint scheme give it an elegant look. It is powered by a pretty basic 125cc single-cylinder carburetted engine, which delivers 10bhp through a CVT transmission.
The Speedfight is one of the top-selling scooters in Peugeot's line-up, and one look at it should tell you why. Designed along the lines of sports mopeds, the Speedfight gets edgy body lines and a sharp front fascia, which give it an aggressive stance to suit its character. Powering the Speedfight is a 125cc fuel-injected single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which is mated to a CVT transmission.
The Peugeot Metropolis is a three-wheeled urban scooter, which offers the convenience of a scooter along with the stability of a four-wheeler. The Metropolis is powered by a 400cc , which is rated at 36bhp. The state of the art engine gets electronic fuel injection and liquid-cooling, and sends power to the rear wheel through a CVT automatic transmission. The biggest highlight about this scooter though, are its dual tilting front wheels, which allow the rider to lean into a corner while taking a turn.
For now, Mahindra doesn't have any confirmed plans of launching this scooter range in India. The company is currently focussing on boosting the sales of its existing scooter range, which consists of the Gusto, Gusto 125, Wego and the Duro.
