- Jawa bike launch confirmed for 2018
- Anand Mahindra revealed this through a tweet
- Will take on Royal Enfield
This is big! Mahindra will launch a new Jawa motorcycle this year. This news was confirmed by Anand Mahindra, executive chairman, Mahindra Group on Twitter.
The top honcho confirmed this development when a Twitter user asked him about the official debut. Over the last few months, Anand Mahindra has been dropping hints on the debut of this legendary brand on social media sites, without revealing major information about the upcoming products.
Two years ago, Mahindra struck a deal with the Czechoslovakia-based company to develop and launch Jawa bikes in India and East Asian markets through Classic Legends India Private Limited. It looks like their first product is ready and will hit the Indian market by the end of this year. While there’s not much information on the first Jawa product, rumours suggest that it will be powered by Mojo’s 300cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor. This engine is known for its refinement and performance, however, the Indian market didn’t get to enjoy this and the Mojo failed to generate the necessary volumes. It makes sense for Mahindra to use this engine in the upcoming Jawa bike as it will reduce the overall development cost.
The company plans to take on Royal Enfield with this new bike. Unfortunately, it won´t ring in good numbers in the initial stage as the company is yet to establish a pan-India showroom presence.
