Mahindra has announced that the Gusto will be launched in India and Nepal on September 29. The Gusto is the company’s first 110cc scooter and will be positioned in the country’s fastest growing two-wheeler segment. Over few months, Mahindra is also planning to launch the Gusto in its other global markets in South Asia, Central America and Africa.
Showing confidence about the Gusto’s ability to match up to the segment leader, the Honda Activa, Mr. Rajesh Jejurikar, chief executive, farm equipment and two-wheeler division, Mahindra and Mahindra said, " The Gusto's distinctive, contemporary styling has its origins in Italy and it has been conceptualised based on extensive research and in-depth consumer insights. We hope to create a unique proposition for our customer with it."
Though the company hasn’t divulged many details about the scooter, it did reveal that the Gusto will employ a new all aluminium M-TEC engine which will incorporate high energy HT (ignition) coil and series regulator to return ‘superior’ power, efficiency and reliability. The Gusto will be manufactured at the Mahindra’s facility in Pithampur, near Indore, Madhya Pradesh, which will also cater to the company’s other global markets.
The Gusto is the first new product to roll out of the factory since Mahindra acquired the operations and business assets from Kinetic in 2008. It will be a global model for the Pune-based manufacturer and has been developed in-house at the company’s Research and Development unit in Chinchwad, Pune. The Gusto will be a very important model for Mahindra and it will have the responsibility of increasing the company’s market share in the lucrative scooter segment. It will rival other well established scooters like the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and the Hero Maestro.
