Mahindra Two Wheelers is working on a new 160cc motorcycle, reports Autocar Professional. This bike is expected to be positioned as a premium commuter motorcycle and might be rolled out either by end 2014 or early 2015.
Once launched, this new 160cc bike will compete with the Yamaha FZ family, Bajaj Pulsar 150, Hero CBZ Xtreme and the recently unveiled Suzuki Gixxer. This is a very important project for the Pune based manufacturer but the company is concentrating more on the soon to be launched 110cc scooter that will get them sales volumes.
"MTWL is working on a 160cc premium commuter motorcycle, which, if all goes well, is expected to be rolled out either by end-2014 or in early 2015. However, the utmost priority for the company remains to roll out the ready 110cc scooter, which is squarely aimed at garnering volumes for them.” said a source to Autocar Professional.
Mahindra Two Wheelers is making its presence felt in all the segments. It has the Pantero and the Centuro in the entry level segments, the Mojo 300 will take their premium segment and the Duro, Rodeo, Kine and the Flyte get them some sales from the scooters.
