Mahindra has decided to put a hold on its plans of launching Peugeot scooters in India. This news has been confirmed by Pawan Goenka, managing director, Mahindra.
The top honcho said that they haven’t been able to price the Peugeot scooters as per the Indian buyer’s expectation. Since its acquisition, the company has been conducting a variety of customer clinics to understand their requirements and also figure out the right product placement. But it looks like, the scooters have hit a roadblock due to its premium pricing.
Mahindra was planning to introduce two to three products in India. The Django and the Speedfight were two of them. Both are 125cc scooters with premium feel and components. They were touted to go against the Vespas. The premium 125cc scooter segment is still in the nascent stage, but has massive room for growth.
We’re expecting Mahindra to rethink the Peugeot scooters post the implementation of BS-6 in 2020. The prices of all two-wheelers are bound to increase after this emission norm kicks in and maybe then, Mahindra could find the right price.
