Catering to litre-class motorcycles sold by two-wheeler brands in India, tyre manufacturer Michelin has announced the launch of the Michelin Road 5 radial dual-compound tyres. With prices starting at Rs 15,160 for a tyre, Michelin is offering the Road 5 tyres in three sizes - 120/70-R17 for the front and 190/50-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 for the rear.
The Road 5 radial is a successor to the Road 4 tyre pattern sold by the tyre manufacturer. Michelin has combined three technologies in the development of the Road 5 tyres which, according to the company, has been able to deliver high wet-weather grip in their recent in-house comparison with corresponding tyres by five main rivals in the market. Michelin has made use of latest-generation rubber compounds, dual-compound technology and siped tread pattern.
Notably, the company claims that even after clocking 3,000 miles, the part-worn Michelin Road 5s halt just as quickly as the new Michelin Pilot Road 4 tyres. This has been achieved by using featuring a combination of sipes and reservoirs in the tread pattern to slice through surface water and also improve the water-clearance capacity. As the tyre wears, the sipes reveal wider grooves to increase the tyre’s sea-to-land ratio, thereby maintaining its ability to clear water effectively.
These tyres work well for dry weather riding too. The Michelin Road 5 tyres sport a revolutionary casing construction that contributes to superior straight-line and cornering stability. In the Indian market, the new Michelin Road 5 is compatible with motorcycles like the Honda CBR1000RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Suzuki Hayabusa and GSX-R1000, BMW S 1000 RR and Ducati Hypermotard 950 to name a few.
