-Signs a multi year contract
-Replaces friend and mentor Aleix Espargaro
-He was the runner up in last year’s MotoGP World Championship
Jorge Martin Almoguera has signed a multi-year contract with the Aprilia Racing team starting from 2025. The Spanish rider had previously made it clear that he intends to race with a factory team from next year onwards and contrary to what people expected, he will not join the Factory Ducati Team.
Jorge Martin’s move to Aprilia Racing is a huge advantage to the team. He replaces his good friend and mentor Aleix Espargaro and also fulfils Aprilia’s desire to have a lightning fast rider on the team. Jorge Martin’s talent is expected to squeeze more out of their MotoGP machine.
Martin currently rides for the Prima Pramac Racing Team and was a title contender for the 2023 season. His hopes of snatching the crown from Pecco Bagnaia, who rides for the Factory Ducati Team, ended when he crashed out of the final race in Valencia.
Nevertheless, we’ve seen a more mature rider in Jorge Martin since the beginning of the 2024 season. He currently leads the 2024 MotoGP World Championship standings and poses a serious threat to Pecco Bagnaia’s title defence.
Aprilia will be hoping that Martin continues to be as fast and as brave as he currently is on the Ducati, once he hops onto their bike. The Aprilia MotoGP bike is right up there with the Ducatis and KTMs on the Grid. Maverick Vinales, in fact, put up a dominant performance at the COTA GP and bagged the win.
It’ll now be interesting to see who will take Martin’s place at the Prima Pramac Racing squad.
