-Replaces Enea Bastianini
-Has been the strongest rider on a satellite Ducati this season
-Hopes to bag more championships
After weeks of speculation it is now confirmed that Marc Marquez will race for the Ducati Lenovo Team in 2025. Marquez has signed a two year contract with the Italian team that’ll go on till the end of 2026. The Spaniard is hoping to add more championships to the tally of eight World Championship crowns that he has earned throughout his illustrious career.
Marc Marquez was unbeatable in his days with the Repsol Honda team and earned all of his MotoGP World titles with them. A few years ago, he suffered a horrible crash in Jerez, Spain during the race and suffered broken bones. From then on he has undergone multiple surgeries and fought hard to get fit enough to handle a MotoGP machine. In his last years with Honda the bike wasn’t as competitive as it once was and that added to the frustration of Marquez as he became a mid field player rather than fighting for the podium and wins.
Cut to 2024, Marc Marquez joined the Gresini Racing Team on the satellite Ducati Desmosedici GP. He’s been quick to adapt to the bike and has brought in results that were hard for the Ducati management to ignore. There have been races where he’s started from P13 and finished in P2 and P3. Ducati Corse team general manager Luigi Dall’Igna said that it was Marquez’s unquestionable talent and quick adaptation to the Ducati MotoGP machine that made the company pick Marquez over Enea Bastini and Jorge Martin.
All said, Marc Marquez will be part happy and part relieved about the fact that he has made it to a factory team after what will be only one season on a satellite team.
With Marquez to the Factory Ducati, Martin to Aprilia Racing and Pedro Acosta hopping onto the Red Bull KTM Factory bike next year, we are already looking forward to the 2025 season. Although, let's not forget that this year’s championship battle is brewing to be one to keep a close eye on.
