The FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) is the governing body for MotoGP. They have mandated the compulsory use of tyre pressure sensors for the forthcoming MotoGP season.
MotoGP commercial chief Carmelo Ezpeleta said the Grand Prix Commission had "approved very fast" the tyre sensor decision in its meeting in Geneva on Friday. "The system to do this will be proposed by the MSMA (Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers' Association) members in Phillip Island, Australia and this issue is something to resolve immediately," he said.
A number of teams, including the official Repsol Honda team were already running the sensors at the Sepang test.
The decision is taken to avoid accidents like Avintia Ducati rider Baz’s rear tyre blowout at 290kmph, which could have been fatal but he escaped the accident with bruising.
