- Gets new bodywork
- 160bhp motor is Euro 5 compliant
- Won’t come to India
KTM has taken the wraps off its new flagship ADV, the 2021 1290 Super Adventure R. This bike will sit above the 1290 Super Adventure is the most expensive adventure bike in its line-up.
Like the R in the name suggests, this KTM is loaded with top spec equipment and electronics. The bike also gets new bodywork and that has been done to improve the aerodynamics of the bike to improve overall rider comfort. The fascia area is smaller and the bike is slimmer than before.
When it comes to the frame, the new 1290 Super Adventure now boasts a revised one. The 160bhp V-Twin motor is Euro 5 compliant and is also 1.6kgs lighter than before. The gearbox has been revised too. It is more responsive, faster and lighter. Quickshifter is being offered as an optional extra.
The 2021 Super Adventure R gets a fully adjustable WP XPLOR 48mm front fork paired with a WP PDS rear shock. Both side offers 220mm of travel. The bike rides on Alpina spoked aluminum wheels that is shod in Bridgestone tyres. When it comes to equipment, this new KTM gets a new 7-inch TFT dash and can communicate with the free KTM My Ride app you can install on your smartphone. There are other tech like six-axis IMU, traction control, motor slip regulation, offroad ABS and stability control. There are five riding modes - Rain, Street, Sport, Offroad and one personal Rally mode.
KTM will start selling this new ADV in Europe and US market in the next few months. Unfortunately, it won’t make it to Indian shores. Its younger cousin – the 890 Adventure should come to India though. That would be perfect for a market like India.
