New Bajaj Platina ES revealed at a showroom

Bajaj's updated version of the Platina has already been spied at a dealership before its launch. The clear images give out all the details on the Platina 100 ES.

Though the entire design of the motorcycle seems similar to the one currently sold, the new Platina 100 ES gets a few changes that lends it a fresh look. The most evident change is the new paint scheme and decals that have elevated the visual appeal of the bike. The 100 ES will be available in three colours namely candy red, electron blue and ebony black.

The headlight looks the same, but gets an aerodynamically shaped front visor. The major revision seen on the sides is the change in design of the side body panel. The exhaust pipe is different and the grab rails are body coloured unlike the current model. The alloy wheels are still the same and the front and rear suspension set-up also is unchanged.

The front cowl is wider than the present Platina, but the twin-pod cluster has been carried over to the 100 ES. However, the dials of the instrument cluster are in white, while they are in black on the current one. The side indicators on the new motorcycle are orange, another revision from the clear lens ones.

The Bajaj Platina 100 ES is powered by a new 102cc DTSi engine that churns out 8.2bhp of power and 12.75Nm of torque. It comes mated to a four-speed gearbox. The uprated engine develops more torque than the Platina currently on sale, which is powered by a four-stroke 99.27cc air cooled engine that produces 8.2bhp of power and 8.05Nm of torque. The new 100 ES is still expected to return a fuel efficiency of more than 80kmpl.

The new Platina 100 ES will be sold along with the Platina offered right now. The refreshed motorcycle is expected to be priced Rs 4,500 more than the old Platina. There will be no option between kick-start or self-start, spoke or alloy wheels and drum or disc brakes. The Platina 100 ES will be offered with alloys, self-start and drum brakes as standard.

This upcoming bike will be launched by the end of this month and will go up against the Hero HF Dawn, TVS Max 4R and Yamaha YBR 110 in the sub 125cc segment of commuter motorcycles. More recently, the Discovers and the Pulsars have overshadowed the Platina, but let’s hope this updated version of the Platina helps Bajaj to revive this segment and eventually increase its market share.
