BMW Motorrad recently launched the R 1300 GS as its latest flagship adventure motorcycle in India while the international market received the same a little earlier this year. But with the entry of the new R 1300 GS in the BMW ADV platform, we think there could be a few more models to do the same.
BMW currently has the R 1250 R, R 1250 RS, and the R 1250 RT in its existing portfolio. The trio is based on the brand’s outgoing 1250cc boxer platform. So, it makes sense for the German bikemaker to introduce the same models in a new 1300cc lineup. This means, the new 1,300cc, liquid-cooled, boxer engine could be used for all three motorcycles. For reference, it makes 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm in the GS.
The outgoing BMW R 1250 range, including the GS uses a 1254cc boxer twin engine and it makes 136bhp. So, the probable R 1300 R, 1300 RS, and the R 1300 RT are expected to make similar power figures as the current R 1300 GS. These could also benefit from slight visual tweaks, new electronic aids, as well as revised hardware. However, these are just speculations as of now.
In a related development, BMW is also working on an automatic gearbox for the R 1300 GS. It was presented a few months ago and could be introduced in the future 1300cc models including the GS. Speaking of the R 1300 GS, BMW is working on the Adventure version of it and the details of the bike have been leaked.
