- Brand new 900cc BMW adventure bikes unveiled
- Gets more power, weight reduced
- India launch later this year
BMW Motorrad has finally unveiled its new adventure motorcycles – the F900 GS, the F900 GS Adventure and the F800 GS.
These new bikes were launched when there was a fierce battle in the 900cc category from the British, Italians and Japanese. For 2024, the German brand has decided to tone down the overall styling of the new F900 GS. The bike looks rally-derived from the front – seen on the Yamaha Tenere 700 and the Aprilia Tuareg 660. It has lost that large front beak and has gained a forward-biased windscreen. The endure-styled seat comes standard, and that white exposed sub-frame does make the bike look more rugged.
The engineers have given this new F900 GS a new engine that makes more power. This motor now produces 105bhp at 8500rpm and a peak torque of 93Nm at 6750rpm. The engine mapping has also been revised to get the power bump. In terms of features, these new BMW ADVs are loaded with a TFT instrument cluster, LED lights, a keyless ignition, traction control and multiple riding modes.
One of the most significant changes done on the bike has been in the weight department. Due to a lighter sub-frame and fewer body panels, the bike weighs 14kgs less at 219kgs. The ergonomics have been tweaked, too, by lowering the footpegs and moving the bars a bit towards the rider. These changes have been made to make the bike friendlier in off-road conditions.
The F900 GS Adventure has the same features and specifications as the F900 GS but gets more. It receives an adjustable touring windscreen, a bigger 23-litre fuel tank and a comfier seat. It also has different wheels and suspension. Plus, the crash bars and saddle boxes come as standard. The F800 GS is a road variant, so it gets smaller wheels at the front and suspension with lesser travel.
BMW India will launch these bikes in India later this year. The price points are expected to be attractive, as the brand priced the last generation well. If the company repeats it with the F900 GS, it will likely get a lot more sales.
