- Features new chassis and smaller fuel tank
- Gets repositioned engine and transmission location
- Indian launch unlikely
Honda is reportedly working on a new version of its minibike, the Monkey. The upcoming vehicle, which was revealed through leaked patent images, is noticeably smaller than the existing Monkey 125 minibike.
The upcoming vehicle features a smaller fuel tank and a new chassis. The engine, too, features a different location than the motor on the Monkey 125. While the details are scarce, the new model may use a smaller engine. It will be interesting to see if Honda uses an existing motor from its scooter range on the new minibike.
The ergonomics have also been revised, and the handlebar is positioned closer to the rider. The wheelbase, too, is noticeably shorter than the Monkey 125.
The new model may not replace the Monkey 125. Instead, Honda may offer the new vehicle alongside the Monkey 125 in the minibike category. Honda has already discontinued the Navi from the Indian market due to lacklustre sales, and thus we do not expect to see the Monkey 125 or the new minibike on our shores.
In other updates, Honda is working on a bigger version of its Rebel cruiser series. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer will reportedly use an Africa Twin CRF1100L-sourced motor for its new cruiser.
