Honda Global has unveiled the new, CRF1100L Africa Twin-based NT1100 for the international markets. Unlike the CRF1100L Africa Twin, which competes in the adventure-tourer segment, this new motorcycle from the Japanese two-wheeler maker has been introduced as a sports-tourer. Here we explain the top details of the new Honda NT1100.
Design
The new NT1100 features a touring-focussed styling that comprises a semi-fairing design and a tall windscreen. The upper and lower deflectors on the motorcycle are aimed to provide wind and weather protection. The windscreen at the front offers a five-stage adjustment for height and angle. The motorcycle also features a twin-pod headlight design that uses an LED setup. Other styling cues include a muscular fuel tank with a 20.4-litre capacity, split-style saddle, detachable panniers, and a side-slung exhaust. The low position of the exhaust is aimed to maximise the pannier volume. The panniers feature 33-litre and 32-litre capacity to the left and right sides, respectively. Internationally, the NT1100 will be available in three colours – Matte Iridium Gray Metallic, Pearl Glare White, and Graphite Black.
Features
This new sports-tourer from the Japanese manufacturer is loaded with several premium features. The lighting, for example, is full-LED. The LED turn indicators on the motorcycle feature self-cancelling and emergency stop signal functions. Electronic rider aids on the NT1100 comprise five riding modes (Urban, Rain, Tour, and Two User customisable), power modes, engine braking control, ABS, Honda Selectable Torque Control, wheelie control, heated grips, and cruise control system. The cockpit includes a 6.5-inch colour-TFT touchscreen display that is customisable and packs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A USB socket, centre stand, and an ACC socket are also part of the standard package.
Engine
The mechanical specifications on the new NT1100 include a 1,084cc, parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is taken from the CRF1100L Africa Twin. The motor is tuned to deliver a peak power of 100.5bhp at 7,250rpm and a maximum torque output of 104Nm at 6,250rpm. Honda will offer the NT1100 with two gearbox options – six-speed manual or six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The manual transmission version will be available with an optional quickshifter. Honda claims a fuel economy of 20kmpl and a range of 400km between fuel stops.
Hardware
The NT1100 is built around a semi-double cradle chassis and it rides on 17-inch multi-spoke cast aluminium wheels. The suspension tasks are handled by Showa 43mm SFF-BP type inverted telescopic forks at the front and a Showa gas-charged mono-shock at the back – both adjustable for preload. The anchoring power comes from twin 310mm discs with radial mounted four-piston callipers at the front and a 256,mm single rotor with a single-piston calliper at the back. The manual transmission variant tips the weighing scale at 238kg while the DCT version is 248kg heavy (kerb weight).
Accessories
Honda will offer several accessories for the NT1100 including a quickshifter with autoblipper function, and aluminium cosmetic panels for the luggage. Honda will also offer three preset packs that would club several accessories together – Urban, Touring, and Voyage. The Urban pack will bring a 50-litre top box with an inner bag, a comfort back-rest, and a 4.5-litre tank bag to the motorcycle. The Touring pack comprises rider/pillion comfort seats, comfort pillion footpegs, and fog lights. Lastly, the Voyage option combines all the accessories listed in the Urban and Touring packs.
