Mahindra has officially announced that its new 110cc scooter, internally called G101, will be christened Gusto. Last month, we had revealed the first clear images as well as the name of the company’s first 110cc scooter, which will sit below the Rodeo in the company’s line-up.
The front apron of the Gusto, with its pseudo air vents reminds us of the Kinetic Blaze. The front also gets a faux aluminium panel with the company’s logo and clear lens indicators. The rear gets a huge tail lamp assembly which integrates the stop light, reflectors, the clear lens indicators as well as the company’s logo. The instrument cluster gets an analogue speedometer and fuel gauge with a silver housing.
The Gusto will get some features from the Centuro like the flip key and auto lock mechanism, though Mahindra seems to have ditched some premium features like alloy wheels and a disc brake. The Gusto will be powered by a single-cylinder air-cooled 110cc engine, and is expected to borrow fuel saving technologies from the Centuro’s unit.
The Gusto will compete with other 110cc scooters including the Hero Pleasure, TVS Jupiter and the country’s favourite scooter, the Honda Activa. Currently, Mahindra only has 125cc scooters in its portfolio and the Gusto will be a very important scooter for the company. The scooter segment in India is growing by leaps and bounds and the Pune-based manufacturer will pin its hopes on the Gusto to help it drive up its market share in the world’s biggest two-wheeler market.
