After getting off to a good start with the Mojo, Mahindra now seems to have turned its focus towards the commuter motorcycle segment. Mahindra’s brand new small-capacity commuter motorcycle was recently spotted testing in Maharashtra, fuelling rumours about the company’s intentions of getting back in the mass market segments.
Mahindra has so far been unsuccessful in making a dent in the commuter motorcycle segment. Its previous offerings – the Stallio, Pantero and the Centuro might have been radical in their own right, but they failed to catch the attention of commuter motorcycle buyers. This new commuter motorcycle though, seems to be taking a different approach with its barebones design and minimal equipment. The motorcycle gets spoke wheels, drum brakes and a simple fully analogue instrument console. Even when it comes to aesthetics, the motorcycle is quite elementary and straightforward.
The underpinnings on the motorcycle do not resemble the chassis of either of Mahindra’s motorcycle which means that this might be a completely new platform. Rumours suggest that the commuter motorcycle came with a 155cc powertrain, though there are no signs on the motorcycle to imply the same. Mahindra has so far been tight lipped about this motorcycle, though we can expect more details to be revealed as this prototype nears production.
