- Royal Enfield SG650 Twin concept unveiled
- To spawn a bobber-styled offering in the future
- Will have modern components with retro styling
Royal Enfield has unveiled an all-new concept called the SG650 Twin at the ongoing 2021 EICMA show in Milan. Although the brand hasn’t mentioned it in release, we know that SG stands for Shotgun and this concept will most likely act as the base platform for the company’s upcoming bobber-styled motorcycle.
Royal Enfield’s Chief of Design, Mark Wells had set a challenge for the brand’s industrial design team to create an amalgamation of something new yet classic. Something that would stay true to Royal Enfield’s heritage yet exude a modern appeal. And this combination of the past and the future has been represented with the help of a variety of materials included and the finishing overall.
Typical of a bobber, the SG650 Twin concept boasts a single floating-style seat, a short tubular handlebar, chopped front and rear fender, bar-end mirrors, and chunky tyres. While the front end gets a retro-styled polished aluminum finish, the fuel tank features digital graphics like new-age motorcycles. The 650cc, parallel-twin engine is also adorned with digital graphics. Notably, this is the same unit that does duty on the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.
Other elements present in the SG650 concept include a CNC billet machine fuel tank, wheels made out of a solid aluminium block with integrated ABS, dual disc brakes at the front, upside down front forks, hand-stitched black leather seat. Although the final production model of the SG650 concept will be a much more toned-down version, it’s a clear indication that RE’s future products will be quite interesting and radical.
