Ducati has officially unveiled its latest and first single-cylinder bike in the last 30 years, the Hypermotard 698 Mono. The new Italian supermoto bike makes its debut just a few days after the bikemaker introduced the Superquadro Mono engine. So, here is everything we know about the new Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono.
Ducati is offering the Hypermotard Mono in multiple variants – standard and RVE. Both trims get the same supermoto design inspired by the bigger Hypermotard. So, there is a single-piece LED headlight with a raised beak below it, wide tubular handlebar, tall and narrow seat, and upswept dual exhaust canisters. That said, the standard model comes draped in a red paint scheme, whereas the RVE model gets a swanky livery with white, black, and red colours all over.
Powering the new Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is a 659cc, liquid-cooled Superquadro Mono engine and it makes 77.5bhp and 63Nm. It gets a six-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. If you equip the bike with the Termignoni racing exhaust, then the output figures further increase to 84.5hp and 67Nm. While the RVE model gets a standard quickshifter, Ducati offers it as an accessory for the base model.
The motor is nestled in a new trellis frame and Ducati claims that the chassis weighs just 7.2kg. It rides on fully adjustable USD front forks and a monoshock and gets 17-inch wheels wrapped in 120/70 front and 160/60 rear Diablo Rosso 4 tyres. Its braking hardware includes a 330mm front and 245mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS (switchable at the rear). Even in terms of features, the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono gets an impressive package. It comes with LED illumination, 3.8-inch LCD, three power modes (high - 77.5bhp, sharp throttle output, medium - 77.5bhp and a relatively linear throttle response, and low - 58bhp for smooth throttle), four ride modes (Sport, Road, Urban, and Wet), traction control, four-level wheelie control, engine brake control, and launch control.
Ducati has launched the Hypermotard 698 Mono in the UK with an asking price of GBP 10,995 (approximately Rs. 11.18 lakh, sans taxes). We think the chances of it being launched in India are quite low.
