- Suzuki could bring back its track-oriented GSX-R models
- Likely to make their public debut at the EICMA 2025
Suzuki might be working on bringing back its track-focused line of sportbikes which earlier included the GSX-R600, GSX-R750, and the mighty GSX-R1000. While these bikes are no longer on sale, except in select markets like the USA, the Japanese brand seems to be working on introducing a new range of serious sportbikes globally.
The development was touched upon by Toshihiro Suzuki, the president of Suzuki Motor Corporation during one of his recent interviews. Suzuki’s present sportbike portfolio includes the GSX-R125 and the GSX-8R. While the latter is quite a capable twin-cylinder machine, it’s much more practicality-oriented than the serious inline-four track missiles that Suzuki’s erstwhile GSX-R machines used to be. Those sportbikes were discontinued when the latest emission norms came into effect in Europe and other continents. Making these bikes comply with more stringent emission norms while retaining the same performance as before has been becoming an expensive affair thereby making their production and sales a lesser lucrative deal.
Suzuki is not looking at getting back into MotoGP or World Superbike Championship, but its complete focus will be on bringing back the real sportbike fun to its customers. The company spokesperson clearly stated that it’s important for them to deliver those bikes to the masses which represent their heritage. He also hinted that these bikes will make their public appearance at the next EICMA which is less than a year away now.
