Triumph Motorcycles has revealed the new Tiger Sport 660 that will be the most affordable model in the company’s adventure-tourer series. The motorcycle is scheduled to make its global debut in the coming months. The Indian launch details are unavailable yet, although we could see this model on our shores in late-2021 or early-2022. While we await more details about its India launch, here we tell you everything that we know about the upcoming Triumph Tiger Sport 660.
Design
The first images of the upcoming Tiger Sport 660 revealed the motorcycle in prototype form. However, leaked images of the vehicle give a detailed look at the production-spec model. The new Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will feature a semi-fairing design along with a tall windscreen that should provide windblast protection and good touring capabilities. The styling cues will be sportier than the rest of the Tiger range, and this new iteration of the adventure-tourer will feature a sharp design for the twin-pod headlight. Other design elements will include a muscular fuel tank, a step-up seat, and an underbelly exhaust.
Features
The feature list on the new Tiger Sport 660 will include full-LED lighting and a digital instrument cluster that will be similar to the unit on the Trident 660. The details about the rider aids are limited but we could see electronics similar to the Trident 660. Thus, the Tiger Sport 660 should pack a switchable traction control, switchable ABS, and two riding modes (Rain and Road) as standard. The Triumph Shift Assist quickshifter and My Triumph Connectivity System Bluetooth module, similar to the Trident 660, should be available as an optional extra.
Engine
The details about the mechanical specifications are scarce, although we could see similar power and torque output numbers as the Trident 660. The 660cc, inline-three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine on the Trident 660, for reference, produces 80bhp at 10,250rpm and 64Nm at 6,250rpm. The motor on the Trident 660 comes with a considerably longer service interval of 10,000 miles/16,000km or 12-months (whichever comes first), and we should see similar figures on the Tiger Sport 660.
Hardware
The suspension setup on the Tiger Sport 660 will include upside-down front forks and a rear mono-shock. The braking tasks would be handled by twin discs at the front and a single rotor at the back – both grabbed by Nissin-sourced callipers. The motorcycle will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels that would be wrapped in road-biased tyres. The details about the dimensions are not available yet, but the Tiger Sport 660 should come with a lower seat height than the rest of the portfolio.
Rivals
The new Tiger Sport 660 should occupy the price gap between the Trident 660 and the Tiger 850 Sport. Thus, we expect the motorcycle to arrive in the Rs 8-9 lakh (ex-showroom) price range. Once launched, the new Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will rival the likes of Kawasaki Versys 650, Suzuki V-Storm 650 XT, and the CFMoto 650 MT.
