- New two-wheeler recall policy announced
- Government will issue recall notice
- Manufacturers will need to fix it for free
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways as issued a new vehicle recall policy. This policy will be effective for all automobile manufacturers from 1st April.
According to this new policy, there will be a variety of fines imposed to manufacturers depending on the vehicle types. The fines are in the range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh. Currently, the Indian manufacturers follow voluntary vehicle recall policy. So through this initiative, the industry could shift towards mandatory vehicle recall policy.
The manufacturers will need to get their vehicle tested and if the testing standards aren’t met, then the government can issue a recall notice to the brands. The government will then notify the affected consumers regarding this recall. The brands would then initiate the recall process if approved, and then ask the affected customers to bring their vehicle to the nearest service center to rectify the issues. The manufacturers will need to bear the cost of this recall.
