- Likely to be the 2021 model of the Yamaha MT-07
- Could get design updates and added features
- Engine is likely to be a Euro-5 compliant unit
Yamaha was spotted testing the new model of its middle-weight naked streetfighter, the MT-07. The Japanese bikemaker is likely to unveil this model in 2021 which will perhaps get a refreshed styling, tweaked cycle parts and a revamped engine.
Going by the camouflaged bodywork and mounted test equipment, the motorcycle appears to be a prototype in its early stages. Although the body panels are covered and don’t reveal much of the styling, the design will certainly go through an overhaul for the next-generation model. Moreover, the black and white digital instrument cluster might also be replaced by a full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth-connectivity, which is a trend in bikes these days.
Powering the ongoing model of the MT-07 is a 689cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor which churns out 73.5bhp at 9,000rpm and 68Nm at 6,500rpm. This unit is mated to a six-speed gearbox. While this motor seems to be unchanged in the spy shots, the exhaust canister has been slightly tweaked to comply with the upcoming Euro-5 emission norms. In terms of cycle parts, the telescopic forks up front have been retained and the new model still misses out on the upside down forks. The current-gen MT-07 is also devoid of electronic aids such as traction control and power modes which are likely to be introduced in the upcoming iteration of the streetfighter.
While the motorcycle is expected to debut in 2021 in the international markets, Yamaha is likely to unveil the next-gen MT-07 at the 2020 EICMA show in Milan. As for its India entry, the Japanese bikemaker has currently no plans to bring the motorcycle here anytime soon.
