- New R-series model likely to be YZF-R7
- Unveiling details unavailable yet
- Not likely to arrive in India any time soon
Yamaha has released a teaser video for its new R-series product that will be unveiled soon. While the details are scarce, the upcoming R-series model could be the new YZF-R7. Regular readers would know that the leaked document filed with California’s Air Resources Board has confirmed the YZF-R7.
The leaked documents also confirmed that the motorcycle will be available in two variants, although they are likely to be distinguished through paint schemes. The teaser image showed a racetrack and public roads. Thus, we can expect the upcoming motorcycle to be friendlier in terms of ergonomics than the YZF-R6.
The details about the mechanical specifications are scarce, although previous reports claim that the new YZF-R7 could be based on the MT-07 platform. If true, the new YZF-R7 will use a 689cc parallel-twin motor instead of an inline-four setup on the YZF-R6. The engine could deliver 72.4bhp of maximum power at 8,750rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm.
The new YZF-R7 could carry a competitive tag than the YZF-R6. The Indian launch details are not available yet, but we do not expect to see the motorcycle on our shores any time soon.
