- New Yamaha YZF-R7 unveiled for international markets
- Powered by a 689cc, parallel twin-cylinder, CP2 engine
- Available in two colours
Yamaha has revealed the new YZF-R7 for the international markets. The middleweight supersport model from the Japanese brand features a new front fascia that includes a centrally-mounted LED headlight with LED DRLs flanked on either side. The front fascia also includes a YZR-M1 MotoGP bike style M-shaped air intake.
The cockpit on the motorcycle includes a newly designed LCD instrument cluster with a high-contrast negative mode display. The display shows gear indicator as well as a shift indicator light, and a Quick Shift System indicator when the optional accessory is used. The styling cues include a muscular (13-litre) fuel tank with YZF-R1-style fin design, a clip-on style handlebar, split-style seats, and a compact exhaust canister. The motorcycle is built around a tubular frame with aluminium centre brace. Yamaha will offer the new YZF-R7 in two colours – Icon Blue and Yamaha Black.
Mechanical specifications on the motorcycle include Yamaha’s 689cc, parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled CP2 engine with a 270-degree crankshaft that gives an uneven firing sequence. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the motor is tuned to produce 72.4bhp at 8,750rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The gearbox benefits from an assist and a slipper clutch as standard while a Quick Shift System is available as an optional extra.
The hardware on the motorcycle comprises fully-adjustable, 41mm, KYB-sourced upside-down forks at the front. The suspension tasks at the rear are handled by a preload and rebound damping adjustable mono-shock. The anchoring duties are handled by twin rotors at the front and a single disc at the back.
The India launch details are unavailable at the moment, although we do not expect to see this motorcycle on our shores anytime soon.
