- Yamaha YZF-R7 unveiling tomorrow
- It is the successor to the YZF-R6
- Likely to be based on the MT-07 naked bike
Yamaha is all set to globally unveil its all-new supersport offering, the YZF-R7, tomorrow, 18 May 2021. Besides being teased twice until now, images of the bike snapped during its official photoshoot have recently been leaked online.
While it takes design inspiration from its bigger litre-class sibling, the YZF R1, there are certain elements unique in the R7. It gets an LED projector headlamp sitting at the centre of the air-intake. Flanking the headlight on both sides are sleek and menacing-looking LED DRLs. Meanwhile, the design of the fairing, fuel tank and tail portion resemble the YZF R6 to some extent but the R7 looks more squatted and aggressive.
Although mechanical details about the upcoming new R7 are yet to be revealed, it is likely to share its powerplant with the MT-07 street bike. This 698cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor churns out 72.4bhp of maximum power at 8,750rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. It could also use the revised iteration of the MT-07’s chassis, suspension and brakes.
The Yamaha YZF-R7 will replace the R6 that was discontinued last year as it didn’t comply with the latest emission norms. And just like the latter that never came to India, chances of the R7 dropping on our shores are slim.
