- West Bengal comes up with an excellent EV scheme
- No registration cost for electric two-wheelers
- Scheme valid for almost 2 years
There’s a big development regarding electric two-wheelers that has happened in West Bengal. The state government has decided to make electric scooters and electric motorcycle ownership almost tax-free.
The West Bengal government has announced that any electric two-wheeler sold and registered in the state won’t be required to pay registration charges. This means the cost of owning these vehicles will come down drastically as the registration charges are usually a considerable amount.
This new scheme is valid from 1 April, 2022 till 31 March, 2024. For the EVs purchased in the last two months, the government has decided to compensate them by extending the tax validity.
This new step by the West Bengal government is bound to push EV sales as the petrol cost has failed to come down considerably. We can also expect all EV brands to open more showrooms in the state to cater to the expected high demand.
