- CBU deliveries to commence by end of June
- Local assembly to start by end of 2018
- Booking amount varies across dealerships
Kinetic Group has started accepting bookings for the Norton Commando 961. While some Motoroyale dealerships are accepting bookings for a token amount of Rs 2 lakhs, the rest are asking for 50 per cent of the price of motorcycle, which comes to around Rs 12 lakhs.
The Commando 961 is a modern classic based on the café racer genre. Each motorcycle is hand built, with the British brand taking pride in the attention to detail. It is powered by a parallel-twin engine churning out 77bhp and 80Nm of torque. While the Triumph Thruxton R would be the befitting rival to the Commando 961, the price tag makes it rub shoulders against modern streetfighters like the MV Agusta Brutale 1090 RR and the Ducati Monster 1200S.
Kinetic Group and Norton announced a venture in November last year for the latter’s foray in the Indian market. The Commando 961 will be the first product to be rolled out under this venture. The motorcycle will initially be launched as a CBU with a price tag of around Rs 23 lakhs. However, by the end of this year, Kinetic will start locally assembling the bike at its facility in Ahmednagar. Norton motorcycles will be sold in India through Motoroyale outlets alongside the MV Agusta and SWM range.
