Okinawa has announced that it will introduce its first electric motorcycle, the Oki100, in the third quarter of FY2020-21 (i.e. October-December 2020). Okinawa also stated in its press announcement that except for the battery cells, all the components of the upcoming electric motorcycle will be manufactured in India.
The Oki100 was showcased in prototype form at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The electric motorcycle will come equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack and boast a claimed top speed of 100kmph. The company aims to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ with its new products.
Okinawa plans to offer a wide range of 100% localised electric two-wheelers, and the Oki100 electric motorcycle will be the first product in this line. The company also plans to widen the local supplier base in India.
Speaking about the upcoming product, Jeetender Sharma, MD, Okinawa said that the company welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘vocal for local’. Okinawa added in its press announcement that the company offers maximum localisation of electric vehicles, which is 88%.
