- Okinawa will launch its first electric motorcycle by early-2020
- Will have a top speed of up to 120kmph
- To deliver a battery range of up to 150km
Okinawa, a Gurugram-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer, will be launching its first electric motorcycle by early-2020 in India. Ahead of its official launch, we got our hands on a few details about its upcoming product.
The main highlight of the motorcycle is its claimed top speed which will go up to 120kmph! To give you a perspective, the Revolt RV 400, which will be its direct competitor, maxes out between 80-85kmph. Similar to its premium scooters such as the i-Praise and PraisePro, Okinawa will equip this motorcycle with a detachable lithium-ion battery. While the company hasn’t revealed the battery capacity, it has confirmed that the e-bike will deliver a range of up to 150km per charge. That hints towards a battery slightly larger than its top-spec product, the i-Praise, which incorporates a 3.3kW lithium-ion battery pack. Furthermore, it will also have a low charging time of around two to three hours.
Following the current trend amongst electric two-wheelers, this motorcycle will be decked up with modern features such as full-LED lighting and fully-digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth-connectivity for allowing it to pair with the user’s smartphone. Through a dedicated application, this will provide a host of vehicle information to the rider.
As learned from Okinawa, the electric motorcycle will be entirely made in India which will help it price it competitively. Although the exact pricing hasn’t been revealed, the company has affirmed that they are aiming to peg it under-Rs 1 lakh. With this e-bike, the brand is aiming to tap the 125cc petrol-powered motorcycle segment along with the newly-launched Revolt electric motorcycles.
Okinawa currently has seven e-scooters in its portfolio. Besides the aforementioned motorcycle, the company will introduce two more scooters in India. One of them will be launched alongside the motorcycle while the other will come at a later stage. With its new products, Okinawa is hoping to witness a significant spike in its sales in the coming months. Notably, the company sold 40,000 units in the previous fiscal year. In other news, the company also plans to expand its dealership reach to 450 outlets, up from the existing 350 showrooms.
