- Okinawa inaugurates new R&D centre in Italy
Okinawa Autotech has partnered with Italian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Tacita, and the joint venture is working on an electric cruiser motorcycle for India. Okinawa has also announced an investment of 25 million euros over the next three years and has inaugurated a new research and development centre in Italy.
The new R&D centre will have the Tactica team working in conjunction with Okinawa’s local technical team located in India. However, at a later stage, the centre will employ nearly 50 technicians from India and across the world. These employees will be trained at domestic and international levels and will be a part of an employee exchange program set to take place between Okinawa and Tacita.
At the new centre, both companies will work on developing new Okinawa products, upgrading the existing offerings, and building a new EV platform for future products including the aforementioned cruiser. We believe the brands will not have to develop this cruiser from scratch as Tacita already has two such e-bikes in its international portfolio. These products are christened T-Cruise Turismo and T-Cruise Urban and they come with a five-speed gearbox with varying power and torque output numbers.
