Only ISI marked two-wheeler helmets to be allowed from next year

- Only ISI helmets from 1st June 2021

- To avoid cheap helmets in the market

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has passed a new rule where all two-wheeler helmets need to have the ISI mark from 1st June 2021

This rule has been created to ensure there’s no sale of low quality and sub-standard helmets. However, there’s still no information if the government plans to apply the 1200gms weight rule as well. This rule was notified last year where the helmet needs to be below 1200gms weight in order to make it lighter. But this rule would have made helmets from foreign brands illegal to use in India, even though they are much superior and safer than the ISI ones.

Our experience says that even after creating such laws, cheap helmets continue to make its way into the market as the law enforcement agencies fail to close down establishments selling such cheap helmets. We believe enforcing the law is as important as creating one.
