- Bangalore-based Orxa Energies unveils electric bike prototype, the Mantis
- Claimed to deliver a range of around 200km on full charge
- Production model will be launched by mid-2020
Orxa Energies, a Bangalore-based electric two-wheeler start up, has unveiled its first electric motorcycle prototype, the Mantis. The company took to the stage of the 2019 India Bike Week in Goa to take the wraps off its first product.
The company has pitched the Mantis as a performance electric motorcycle and the design of the prototype epitomises that. It gets a pair of low-slung, LED projector headlamp with LED DRLs. The fuel tank-like panel at the centre gets sharp extensions accompanied by edgy underbelly cowl. Further conveying its sporty intensions are split seat and clip-on handlebars. Although the e-bike is still in the prototype stage, the company says the production model will be close to this in terms of styling.
The Mantis runs on a group of six lithium-ion battery packs which collectively have a capacity of 9kW. While it will take around three and half hours to get fully charged, the clamed battery range stands at around 200km. Interestingly, the batteries of the bike are swappable and the company is planning to setup battery swapping stations in various cities in the future. Furthermore, the motor of the Mantis produces around 70Nm of peak torque and Orxa claims it can attain a top speed in excess of 140kmph.
Orxa Energies will be launching the final version of the Mantis by mid-2020. This will be followed by setting up of the dealerships, starting from Bangalore, and the deliveries of the motorcycle will commence at a later stage. Further technical details and pricing of the Mantis will be revealed closer to the official launch.
