Piaggio readies new 150cc engine for scooters

- Piaggio develops 150cc scooter engine

- Gets liquid-cooled, fuel-injection

- Sports start-stop system

Piaggio has developed a new 150cc engine for their upcoming scooters. This new engine has been co-developed with Zongshen – a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer.

According to a report, both the companies developed this engine for the Asian as well as the European markets. This new 150cc liquid-cooled engine is being called ‘G150S’ and it churns out a 15bhp of peak power and 15Nm of maximum torque. Like most of the modern engines, the G150S too features start-stop system, keyless ignition and also silent start. These features are becoming the new norms for majority of the scooters worldwide including India.

As of now, the company hasn’t mentioned the timeline on this engine hitting the production line, but we can expect new scooters with this engine heading for launch in 2022. We believe Piaggio and Zongshen both will use this engine to power their future 150cc scooters. Unfortunately, Piaggio won’t bring this engine to India as it will push the price of its scooter quite high.
