Piaggio is planning to launch the most powerful Vespa which is the GTS300 in India. The scooter has already reached the homologation process and is expected to be launched between the third and fourth quarter of this year. If the scooter receives sufficient interest it could also be brought in as a CKD unit.
The Vespa GTS 300 is the most powerful offering from the portfolio of the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer. Even though the powerful scooter is mechanically different from its siblings, it still retains the Italian styling. The Vespa GTS 300 uses a part-analogue-part-digital instrument console with an LCD display that houses the fuel gauge, odometer, trip-meter and clock. Powering the scooter is a 278cc, single-cylinder motor churning out 22bhp of peak power and 22.3Nm of torque. Since it’s the most powerful scooter from the stables of Vespa, the GTS 300 features traction control and a two-channel ABS system.
The scooter features an all-steel body which Vespa claims helps in the handling dynamics and high speed stability of the scooter. Braking is taken care of by 220mm diameter disc brakes at front and rear which is necessary, given the claimed top speed of 128kmph. The scooter has a claimed fuel efficiency of 28kmpl.
The GTS300 will be sold through Piaggio Group’s Motoplex showroom. Currently, the group is in the phase of opening these showrooms over the countries and increasing their reach. The premium Vespa will also not be sold in large numbers as it does not fall in the mass market segment.
