- Based on the RX electric motorcycle concept
- Rated top speed is 96kmph
- India launch unlikely
While Ola Electric’s new motorcycle concepts are currently talked about a lot in India, the Chinese market has also got a new electric motorcycle to pay attention to. It goes by the name OAO Pro and has been created by the Chinese two-wheeler giant, QJ Motor.
The OAO Pro was unveiled in its concept form at the EICMA 2022 with the name RX. Since then, a lot of specifications of the motorcycle have changed. For instance, the battery range has gone up to an impressive 170km from the previous 120km. Propelling the electric motorcycle is a mid-mounted motor which peaks out at 10kW and is powered by a 6.4kWh battery pack.
The most interesting aspect of the OAO is the presence of a four-speed transmission system which is unusual in EVs. This should translate into a riding experience that’s closer to ICE vehicles than gearless electric bikes. However, the 96kmph of top speed isn’t fast enough to go with the overall theme of an electric sportbike. For instance, the Ultraviolette F77 Recon, which we recently tested, is capable of achieving a top speed of 147kmph.
On the positive side, with a kerb weight of 164kg, the QJ OAO Pro is pretty light which should make it a zippy daily commuter. Moreover, its seat height of 790mm is low which should be accessible for shorter riders. Other features of the OAO include ABS as standard, an LCD console, a full-LED lighting system, and a USB charging port. Furthermore, the design of the motorcycle is attractive and is in line with QJ’s other ICE motorcycles.
In China, QJ Motor has priced the OAO Pro electric motorcycle at 29,999 Yuan (approximately Rs 3.45 lakh) which is on the affordable side. Unfortunately, it will not come to India anytime soon.
