- Design work commissioned to 26 design students
- Likely to get a host of modern features
It was back in 2020 that the iconic scooter brand Lambretta had announced to be present at the Auto Expo with its electric scooter, G-special. However, the company withdrew its participation a few days before the event took place. Now, after a long silence, there are reports of the company working on a new electric scooter.
As per an online report, Lambretta’s parent company, Innocenti, is taking the help of design students from the European Institute of Design in Milan, Italy to develop a new range of scooters. The students have been commissioned the task of designing these new e-scooters with modern technology while retaining the Italian retro flair, a trait Lambrettas are still known for. Notably, 26 students will be involved in this project which will act as the thesis classes for them.
The new Lambretta scooters are likely to be visually inspired by older models sporting a handlebar-mounted headlamp, a wide front apron and a long and boxy rear section. Perhaps the scooters will also boast some chrome elements to exude a retro vibe. However, the list of equipment will be modern with bits like LED lighting, a digital console, and connected features. Moreover, the range and top speed are likely to be around 120km and 120kmph, respectively.
The international unveiling of the resultant electric scooters is likely to take place next year. As for Lambretta’s re-entry into India, there are no concrete reports on that as of now.
