- Both motorcycles to get a 5.54kWh battery pack
- KTM model is internally known as the ‘Electric Freeride’
- Husqvarna model is internally known as the ‘Electric Pioneer’
KTM has been in the EV game since 2011 with the introduction of the Freeride E electric enduro bike. Despite having over a decade of experience in electric vehicles, KTM has stayed away from street-legal electric bikes. But, that is about to change as KTM and Husqvarna are expected to introduce their street-legal electric motorcycles in global markets in 2025.
According to leaked documents filed with America’s NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), KTM and Husqvarna are expected to launch the KTM ‘Electric Freeride (Street Legal)’ and Husqvarna ‘Electric Pioneer (Street Legal)’ models in 2025. Both models are listed as ‘5.54kWh Li-ion’, hinting at a 5.54kWh battery pack.
This aligns well with the 2022 Husqvarna E-Pilen, KTM E-Duke, and Freeride E LV concepts, as they all had a 5.5kWh battery pack. That said, information about the electric motor’s output is currently sparse. Of the three electric concepts, the KTM Freeride E LV was said to be closer to production. So, if the upcoming bikes are descendants of the Freeride E LV, we can expect the new bikes to offer similar specifications.
Since the Freeride E LV came with a removable battery pack, we expect the upcoming KTM and Husqvarna electric motorcycles to get the same swappable batteries. Moreover, KTM is the founding member of the European Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium, which aims to standardise swappable bike batteries.
