- Sold 52,904 units in August 2019
- Export saw a growth of 205 per cent
- Sales of models over-350cc saw a hike of 124 per cent
Royal Enfield has witnessed a decline of 24 per cent in its year-on-year sales in the month of August in India. While the company had sold 69,377 units in August 2018, the bikemaker dispatched 52,904 units in the corresponding month this year. Considering the current fiscal year sales till now, the Chennai-based bikemaker recorded a drop here as well as it sold 2,90,798 units from April to August. This is a downfall of 20 per cent as compared to the same period last year.
Despite the decline in the overall sales, the company saw a considerable hike in the sales of over-350cc models. These motorcycles fetched 8,210 customers in August 2019 as opposed to 3,665 buyers in 2018, which is a hike of 124 per cent. On the contrary, the 350cc models saw a slump of 32 per cent as 44,694 units of these bikes were sold last month as against 65,712 units in August 2018. Notably, the manufacturer launched a new, more-affordable variant of the Bullet 350 last month. Priced at Rs 1.12 lakhs (ex-showroom), this is the cheapest Royal Enfield in India yet. This move by RE can be linked with the dwindling sales of its 350cc bikes in the country.
Unlike the decline in domestic sales, Royal Enfield recorded a considerable hike in terms of exports. By dispatching 4,152 units last month, as opposed to 1,363 units in August last year, RE reported a growth of 205 per cent.
