- Domestic sales of Royal Enfield slumped by 24 per cent
- International sales grew by 72 per cent
Royal Enfield witnessed a drop of 22 per cent in its overall sales (domestic and exports) in the month of June, as compared to the corresponding month last year. Taking the domestic sales into consideration, the Chennai-based bikemaker reported a slump of 24 per cent by selling 55,082 motorcycles, as opposed to 72,588 units in June last year. On the flip side, the exports of RE skyrocketed in the last month. With the dispatch of 3,257 units, as compared to 1,889 units last year, the exports grew by as much as 72 per cent.
Notably, this is the fourth consecutive month that Royal Enfield sales have dropped and this can be attributed to multiple aspects. The prices of motorcycles have substantially risen over the last few months owing to the increased insurance rates and the introduction of new safety norm which mandated the inclusion of ABS and CBS in two-wheelers. Moreover, various bikemakers have ventured into the segment which was previously dominated by Royal Enfield, resulting in the customers diverting towards different products.
With the aim to attract more customers towards the brand and widening its customer base, Royal Enfield is reportedly working on a 250cc motorcycle which is likely to make its debut in the near future.
