- 250cc bike in the works
- Company wants to widen its customer base
Royal Enfield is rumoured to be working on a new 250cc motorcycle that could make its India debut in the next few years. The company is currently doing a market research for this new Royal Enfield.
According to a report, the Chennai-based manufacturer wants to make its presence felt at the affordable segment. Plus, the recent drop in sales have also made the company think about making their bikes more accessible. There’s still no information on the nature of the bike, but we can expect Royal Enfield to either take the Interceptor or the Classic design approach. In terms of mechanicals, the company would be working on the 250cc engine from ground up as this platform could spawn more than one motorcycle.
The feasibility study for this upcoming bike is being carried out by the Indian R&D team. Once the project gets a go ahead, expect this 250cc Royal Enfield to be fully designed and developed at the company’s UK technical center.
We believe this bike will debut by 2022 at least in a concept form. It is quite interesting to see how the brand is not just entering the bigger displacement segments, but also force its way to a lower displacement area. This strategy is likely to get the company more sales, but there’s a risk of brand dilution as well.
