It was a known fact that TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad were jointly developing a sub-500cc motorcycle. According to latest reports, the first motorcycle might be powered by a four-stroke, single cylinder engine.
TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad signed a major technology agreement last year in India. Under this contract, both the companies had plans to develop sub-500cc motorcycles for the Indian as well as the global market. Latest developments suggest that under the alliance, the companies have started developing a street bike for the Indian market.
Though some fans and enthusiasts might be upset, who were expecting an adventure bike in the making from the manufacturers, this development is good news for most of the TVS fans. TVS didn't launch any major product apart from displaying the Draken concept and few other concepts at the Auto Expo 2014. Now, not much information is available about the upcoming 300cc motorcycle from the Hosur-based two-wheeler maker, but we believe the bike should appeal to most of the motorcycle enthusiasts in our country.
TVS doesn’t have any motorcycle more than 180cc in their current line-up, while BMW doesn’t have any product in the sub-500cc segment. This new product should help both the companies to further extend their reach to customers in emerging markets like India. Currently, the sub-500cc motorcycle segment is catching up faster than the litre-class section of bikes in our country. The new bike, which might go on sale with the TVS moniker, is expected to go into production by the end of next year or start of 2016. With latest technological inputs and developments from BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle might be placed in the premium segment of motorcycles in India.
