Introduction
India is a country with vast lands of natural habitats, making it a perfect place for travelers and motorcycle tourers. And so there are a couple of two-wheeler manufacturers who offers certain products that helps the enthusiasts in the country explore these habitats. These two-wheelers are called tourers and cruisers and over the last couple of years, there’ve been an increase in such products and we love it.
We give you a detailed spec comparison of the recently launched UM Renegade Classic along with the segment leader – the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Mahindra Mojo.
Design & Engine
The Renegade Classic and the Classic fall in the cruiser category, whereas the Mojo is a tourer. In terms of the overall design, the Renegade Classic looks and feels like a proper classic cruiser, unlike the Classic 350 that’s more of a muscular classic. While lot of enthusiasts still do long distance ride on the Classic 350, it lacks the laid back riding position, which the Renegade Classic easily achieves.
The Mojo follows a naked bike design approach, but Mahindra has smartly developed the bike to suit the touring nature. The fascia looks big, but the DRLs tones down the overall look. The side profile looks decent but the gold bars that runs across the bike looks slightly out of place.
In terms of performance, the Renegade Classic stands second at with a 279cc single-cylinder water-cooled engine that produces 25bhp at 8500rpm and peak torque of 21.8Nm at 7000rpm. But it gets a six-speed gearbox. The power output of Mojo is marginally above the Renegade Classic at 26.45bhp and torque stands at 30Nm. The Classic 350 is the least powerful with its 350cc single-cylinder engine which has a power output of 19.8bhp at 5250rpm and 28Nm at 4000rpm. Plus, this bike gets a five-speed gearbox.
Cycle parts
In terms of equipment, the Mojo is a winner. It gets upside-down forks, dual exhaust 21-litres fuel tank and an instrument cluster which looks basic but has some cool features. Other than the regular functions, it has speed test meter which records the 0-100kmph time, a maximum speed recorder, a malfunction light and an RPM recorder. The classic 350 has the most basic one with a round speedometer, which has odometer and other indicators integrated to it.
The Renegade Classic has a tank mounted cluster that looks good, especially the blue sticker inside the speedometer. Other than this, the Classic gets lot of chrome inserts, backrest, two extra lamps to take care of highway runs and a tall windscreen for wind protection.
Price
Indian consumers are very price conscious. They want the most value for the money, so even if they like something, the decision will be taken only after they know or see the price. Out of all three bikes here, the Royal Enfield is the most affordable at Rs 1.20 lakh. The Mahindra Mojo comes third with a price tag of Rs 1.65 lakh, whereas the UM Renegade Classic is the most expensive of all at Rs 1.69 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
