SPOTTED! Brand new Ather electric scooter spotted testing

- Will rival the TVS iQube range

- Gets a family-friendly design

- Looks notably spacious compared to the current 450X

We have known for a while that Ather Energy was working on a new scooter. Now, a new test mule has been spotted in Bengaluru and it could very well be the new Ather electric scooter. Multiple design cues hint that it will be a proper family-friendly scooter with a slightly more conventional design approach.

The new Ather EV has a flat apron and side panels with very minimal cuts or creases. The LED headlight is integrated inside the front panel in a horizontal layout. Even a close look at the side panel shows the taillight housed similarly. The floorboard area of the new test scooter appears to be more spacious than the current 450X’s. Its seat is also wider and longer with a modest-looking single-piece grab-rail. There is a foldable pillion footrest, too, on the left side. Then, the mirrors look sizeable and slightly different from what the current Ather scooters get.

The left profile image also reveals that the belt drive system has been retained but is now covered. This could make it durable and address the current Ather’s feedback. Although the new Ather will get a different design, its hardware, motor, and battery could be borrowed from the 450X. For reference, the 450S gets 115km of range, while the 450X (2.9kWh) and the 450X (3.7kWh) come with 111km and 150km of range, respectively. All three models get a top speed of 90kmph. Going by the current riding conditions and daily range required by an average user, the aforementioned figures should suffice and could be carried over to the new Ather electric scooter as well.

The new EV could borrow the 450S’ Deep View display to keep the costs in check. Along with LED illumination, we expect the scooter to come with ride modes, multiple readouts on the screen, and smartphone connectivity, too.

Ather could launch the scooter as soon as this test mule appears ready for production. Moreover, the Bengaluru-based brand is also set to announce the Series 2 electric scooter soon.
