The Suzuki GSX-R150 and its streetfighter sibling GSX-S150 have been unveiled at the ongoing Indonesian Motorcycle Show 2016, in Jakarta.
The GSX-R150 gets racy design cues inspired by the Suzuki GSX-R1000, with the blue MotoGP livery highlighting the company’s racing heritage. The GSX-S150 on the other hand looks like a shrunken version of the GSX-S1000 litre-class streetfighter. The instrument cluster consists of a fully digital display borrowed from the Suzuki Gixxer. Both the Suzuki GSX-R150 and GSX-S150 are powered by a 147cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected single-cylinder engine. This engine delivers 18.2bhp and 13.8Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. They ride on conventional telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock. Both get a front and rear disc brake.
While the GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 might be close to the Gixxer in terms of capacity, both these motorcycles are more of entry-level sportbikes than premium commuters. They come loaded with technology like fuel-injection, liquid-cooling and a rear disc brake, which puts it in the league of the Yamaha YZF-R15 and M-Slaz.
The Suzuki GSX-R150 will go on sale in Indonesia in early 2017 as a rival to the Yamaha YZF-R15, Honda CBR150R and the KTM RC200. The GSX-S150 on the other hand will compete against the Yamaha M-Slaz, Honda CB150R and the KTM Duke 200. In India, we do not expect either of these bikes to go on sale anytime soon.
