Suzuki GSX-S1000R discontinued from Europe, Japanese market

-         GSX-S1000R discontinued

-         Won't be sold in Europe, Japan

-         New GSX-S1000R may be under development

Suzuki has decided not to sell their iconic GSX-S1000R in European as well as Japanese markets. In fact, the company has stopped making this litre-class superbike for these two regions.

The main reason for the GSX-S1000R being taken off the shelves is the emission norms. The 999cc inline-four litre engine isn’t able to meet the tightening emission norms in Japan and in some other regions as well. For now, this motorcycle will continue to be on sale in North America and the Philippines.

However, according to reports, the Japanese brand is rumoured to be working on the next generation GSX-S1000R which will also get a new engine. Rumours suggest that this motor could get a lot of tech from their MotoGP bikes. But these are just rumours for now.

Interestingly, Suzuki discontinued the older generation Hayabusa years before the new bike was launched. So there's a high chance that the brand could use the same approach for the new GSX-S1000R.
