- 3,88,411 units are a part of the recall
- Customers are being contacted to get their vehicles checked
Suzuki Motorcycle India as issued a massive recall for three of its 125cc scooters including the Access 125, Burgman Street 125, and the Avenis 125. A total of 3,88,411 scooters that were manufactured between 30 April 2022 and 3 December 2022 are a part of this recall campaign. The company is calling it a precautionary recall and the scooter owners are being contacted to get their vehicles checked at the nearest service centre and get the issue resolved, if it exists.
Engine stalling, starting failure, speed display error, and the engine not starting are some of the issues that the affected scooters may show. The official recall notice elaborates on the error by stating ‘Since high tension cord which did not meet the drawing requirements (NG) was installed to ignition coil, crack and breakage occurred in high tension cord due to repeated bending caused by engine oscillation during running, resulting in engine stall and starting failure. Further, when cracked high tension cord is exposed to water, the vehicle speed sensor and throttle position sensor may be damaged by the leaked ignition output, resulting in speed display failure or starting failure.’
This comes on the heels of the brand issuing a recall for its adventure motorcycle, the V-Strom 800 DE. The company recalled all units, 67 to be particular, of the motorcycle sold till date over a potential rear tyre defect. In other news, Suzuki recently launched 2024 models of the Access 125, Burgman Street 125, and the Avenis 125. The only update these scooters have received is new colour options while remaining unchanged in all other areas.
