- Introduced Burgman Electric last year
- To launch eight new electric two-wheelers
- Could be launched in India by 2025
The world of two-wheelers is moving towards electrification at a strong pace and Suzuki has hopped on the bandwagon by revealing its EV plans.
The Japanese manufacturer has revealed that it is looking to launch eight new electric two-wheelers by FY2030. While there is no confirmation about what these models will be, we can expect a mix of scooters and motorcycles to cater to a wider audience.
However, Suzuki has announced that EVs will make up just 25 per cent of its portfolio with the rest of the 75 per cent as ICE models by 2030. That said, most of these electric two-wheelers will be small and mid-sized models that will focus on commuting and daily use. On the other hand, for large motorcycles, Suzuki is looking to adopt carbon-neutral fuels and possibly stay away from battery packs for a while.
Now, the company has already introduced the Burgman Electric globally in October last year. Although offering a considerably small riding range, the electric scooter is expected to get a few tweaks and higher riding range before it is introduced globally, including in India. Having said that, there is no word about the electric Burgman being launched here. However, according to our sources, Suzuki is also working on the Access Electric which is what we expect to be launched in the country as their first electric two-wheeler.
